Congratulations on Your Purchase!
Thank you for choosing the BushBash Starlight Headliner Kit. This guide will walk you through the installation process, ensuring a seamless and professional result.
Tools & Materials Required:
- Trim removal tool
- Microfiber towel
- Light interior cleaner
- Pen/marker
- Drill with appropriately sized drill bit
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Cable ties
- 12V DC power source
Step 1: Removing the Headliner
The removal process varies by vehicle. However, the general procedure is as follows:
- Detach Trim and Fixtures – Use a trim removal tool to carefully remove any trim pieces securing the headliner.
- Remove Light Fixtures & Roof Accessories – Unscrew or unclip any dome lights, sun visors, grab handles, or roof-mounted accessories.
- Extract the Headliner – Once all securing components are removed, carefully slide the headliner out through a door or the boot.
Step 2: Cleaning the Headliner
Before installation, thoroughly clean the headliner:
- Use a light interior cleaner and a microfiber towel to remove dust and debris.
- If desired, you may paint the headliner black for a more dramatic effect. However, this is optional and not required for proper installation.
Step 3: Drilling the Headliner
-
Mark Sections for Even Distribution
- On the back (non-visible) side of the headliner, use a pen or marker to divide it into four quadrants.
- This ensures an even spread of starlight fibers.
-
Determine Hole Placement
- Divide the total number of fibers by four and distribute them equally across each quadrant.
- Use the pen to mark hole positions accordingly.
-
Drill the Holes
- Use a drill bit that is equal to or slightly smaller than the fiber diameter to ensure a snug fit.
Step 4: Threading & Securing the Fibers
-
Insert Fibers
- Starting in the first quadrant, thread fibers through the pre-drilled holes, leaving at least 10cm extending from the visible side.
- These will be trimmed after reinstallation.
-
Secure with Hot Glue
- Apply a small dab of hot glue at the base of each fiber to hold it in place.
-
Organize the Fibers
- Use cable ties to neatly group the fibers and prevent tangling.
Step 5: Reinstalling the Headliner
- Carefully reposition the headliner inside the vehicle.
- Reattach the trim and fixtures removed in Step 1.
- Route the fiber bundle toward the designated mounting location of the light motor.
Step 6: Connecting to 12V DC Power
-
Locate a Power Source
- Identify an existing 12V DC circuit that powers off with the ignition to prevent battery drain.
-
Connect the Light Motor
- Wire the motor into the selected power source following standard wiring practices.
Step 7: Final Adjustments
- Trim the Fibers – Once the headliner is secured, carefully cut the fiber ends flush with the headliner surface.
- Power On & Test – Use the supplied remote or mobile app to activate the lights and adjust settings to your preference.
